Who is a Candidate for Career Counseling Services?

Everyone can benefit from career counseling, because it is difficult to objectively and critically evaluate yourself and your career.  Further, an expert is often needed to properly identify career goals and an action plan.  Especially consider a consultation in the following circumstances:

• you have limited advancement or promotion potential in your current job or career;
• you have been unemployed for longer than seems necessary or your job search is stalled;
• you want to transition to a new career;
• you are returning to the workforce after an extended absence;
• you want to develop an overall career objective and goal;
• you want a fresh start or outlook;
• you are not happy in your current job and career but unsure how to proceed; and
• you feel that you would benefit from an outside expert's advice, guidance and focus.

METHODOLOGY

GSC utilizes a highly individual and customized approach to career counseling. Our services are specific to your needs, thoroughly discussed and agreed upon with you beforehand, and provided by a very experienced and skilled counselor selected for you and your situation. You will be working with an expert who will provide you with real value and we guarantee your satisfaction. Our approach has many of the general features of a professional consulting project, which we have found works well with our clientele:

• Initial consultation, typically an hour, no charge;
• Assessment through discussion, questioning and written tests;
• Development of objectives, action plan and timeline;
• Periodic progress evaluations, critical feedback, adjustment of plan and timeline; and
• Review and assessment upon completion.

While we intentionally do not offer a standard menu of services, a typical project involves clarifying a client's job and career goals; identifying job and career alternatives; developing strategies for skills and qualifications to achieve these jobs and careers; organizing and assisting job search; and providing guidance through completion. In addition, we offer a full range of job search services, such as resume polishing or writing; interviewing advice and feedback; employer company research; and any level of involvement desired to further your job search. As just one example, we have performed job marketing campaigns for client candidates, which involves the identification of target employers and their decision-makers, networking to make personal contact, resume tailoring and presentation of the candidate's resume and qualifications. As the above illustrates, we will work with you to understand what you and your career need, then help you get there. While there is no limitation on the role that we are willing to undertake for you, we will candidly recommend to you only what we believe is appropriate, and proceed only upon thorough discussion and agreement with you. We operate in an open and transparent manner because in the end it is you who decides if we have been successful.

FEES AND GUARANTEES

Our career counseling fees are quoted on an individual project basis derived from an hourly billing rate for the counselor being worked with. Our counselors are experts, and we are sensitive to the need to keep fees reasonable by minimizing their time involved. For example, our periodic progress evaluations will involve candid, constructive criticism and other feedback including: adjustment of action plan and timeline; and giving the client the tasks, work and next steps to be done. The counselors advise and guide, but much of the actual work is done by the clients. It doesn't have to be this way, but that is the most cost-effective approach. The initial consultation session is no charge. Clients may terminate career counseling projects at any time. Fees are due at the quoted hourly billing rate upon completion of the project stages. Full client satisfaction is guaranteed, meaning no fee is due if you are not satisfied with the work. Career counseling projects and fees are fully documented in written agreements made before work begins.
